Permits module
Track building, operating, environmental, event, work and zoning permits with expiry dates and issuing authorities.
The Permits module tracks permissions granted by an authority for a fixed period: building and construction permits, operating permits, environmental discharge permits, event permits, work and occupational permits, health permits, zoning and land use approvals, signage permits. Operating on a lapsed permit can mean fines or a stop notice.
What it tracks
- The permit and what it allows
- The expiry date
- The issuing authority and permit number
- The owner responsible for renewal
- The permit document (PDF)
Key date
Expiry. Reminders fire on your workspace schedule (60, 30 and 7 days before, and on the day, by default) at 08:00 local time. Authorities can be slow, so consider a 90 day step for permits that need re-application rather than a simple renewal.
A worked example
A restaurant group holds health permits, liquor related permits, outdoor seating permits and signage permits for each of its five sites. Every permit is a record with the site as holder and the general manager as owner. The Board shows which ones are in Expiring soon and which need action now.
Tips
- Store the permit number and the authority's contact in the record so renewal is quick when the reminder fires.
- Where a permit depends on an inspection, track the inspection too (see Inspections module).
- Use the Category picker (Building, Operating, Environmental, Event, Work / occupational, Health, Zoning / land use, Signage) so the Table view filters cleanly.
FAQ
Permit or license? Use Licenses for the right to trade or practise, and Permits for permission to do a specific thing at a specific place or time. Both remind the same way.
Can I track temporary event permits? Yes. Add the event permit with its end date; it drops out of view once renewed or archived.
