The Licenses module tracks licenses that must be renewed to stay valid: business and operating licenses, professional licenses, software licenses, permits, and regulatory registrations.

What it tracks

• The license and what it permits
• The renewal/expiry date
• Issuing authority and license number
• The owner responsible
• The license document (PDF)

Key date

Renewal/expiry. Lapsewise reminds you ahead of it using your lead time, at 8am local time, so renewal paperwork or fees are handled before the license lapses and operations are interrupted.

A worked example

A clinic tracks staff professional licenses, its facility operating license, and several software licenses. Each has a renewal date and an owner. Lapsewise lists them on the runway by due date and emails owners 45 days ahead — enough time for license boards' processing windows.

Tips

• Use generous lead times where the issuing authority is slow to process renewals.
• Track the license number and authority so renewal is fast when the reminder fires.
• For software licenses that auto-renew, note any cancellation window (see Notice periods).

FAQ

Difference between a license and a certification here? Use Licenses for permissions/permits to operate, and Certifications for proof of competence/standards. Track whichever fits; both remind the same way.

Can I track per-person professional licenses? Yes — one record per person/license with its own renewal date and owner.
